Mr Ratty responds to the Emma Milne article...

This letter came too late to include in our June edition, but I still felt I should share it with you!

Dear Ms Milne,

I am writing to thank you for the wonderful, informative article you recently wrote in Dogs Today. My name is Mr Ratty and I am a small Jack Russell terrorist or "small furry" and I have had to spend almost all of my 13 years living with Greyhounds and Lurchers and until I read your article I didn't think there was anyone who understood the abuse and misery I have suffered at their hands.
Only this morning my life was put in grave danger by one of these beasts (Greyhound?? Lurcher?? I dunno, they all look the same from down here....leggy and somewhat lanky). Yes, today I was nearly smothered and I have the photographic proof for you....

This has happened before you know, and sometimes they are all involved, I think they were all trying to kill me here.

And it's not just me who suffers, here I am having to rescue my friend (Boris fluffy bear) from the mouth of one of these "deadly" dogs...

Sadly, Boris later was successfully smothered to death.

It has been a relief to know that you understand these dogs and their "murderous instincts", at last someone recognises my suffering. Others may be fooled by their gentle giant act, but we see them for what they really are don't we?!
So, I offer you my full support and if you would like any further photographic proof for future articles, please do contact me. And I would like to point out that in the next photo, I was in fact trying the now familiar smothering technique (and no matter what anyone may tell you, I am not "loving" or enjoying the close contact, it was a real attempt to kill)

And here...

Keep up the good work Ms Milne, you are so obviously so much better informed than the millions of people in this country who think these dogs are nice pets!

Mr Ratty

this is fantastic. what a shame it is too late for this issue, could you not find a spot for it in next months issue?
I think everyone should read this and while laughing have a think about the true message behind it. these graceful dogs are gentle, loving pets and a great many of them are lifelines to older people who cherish their loving loyal companionship. what a great disservice Ms Milne did to this amazing breed. There is a greyhound waiting to be adopted into any family circumstance and the rescue centres will know exactly which one is right for each home. They are a dedicated band who wish nothing more than to see these loving dogs stay in their forever home giving and receiving love till the end of their days.

Mr. Ratty totally hates the attention and love he receives from his greyhound/lurcher family. What he failed to tell you is that he really wishes that he was as fast, as tall, and as skinny as they are - much jealousy among girls in middle school.

Oh..Mr. Ratty..you do look tortured. Dante, the doxie, would probably agree with your assessments.

great photos!
Oooh I see what you mean, definately looks like you are in danger from those Greyhounds...lucky you were not smothered to death with love. We have the same problem here...our 4 cats terrorize the two greyhounds its quite evil... Methinks Ms Milne should research a wee bit better. I have been a Vet Nurse for 20 years.....worst mauled dogs were not due to greys.........

eh a cheek to show a greyhound as pet of the week,,,HYPOCRITE.
WOW what wonderful words for the greys, am in hysterics the way you worded your tale. I work in Spain with the galgos, (Spanish grey's) 112carlotagalgos.blogspot.com and they are such wonderful serene animals. They love forever... and they are precious! Thanks for loving them, they all need it.

I think the photos are wonderful and the greys are gorgeous. I know what it like to be "smothered" by greyhounds having several of my own. It is tremendous that the response to Emma Milne's article has shown how many people love these wonderful dogs. I would never be without a greyhound

Yes I agree a total hypocrit, the damage has been done and a pathetic attempt to apologise she should be struck, I for one wont be spending any money on this magazine. Too little, too late.

Have you seen the latest issue? It's out today. If you don't want to buy it, well if you decide to be un-anonymous and email me your name and address I'll send you one free of charge.

We're all really sorry about the article and have said so elsewhere at length.

But if you're not going to even look at it and still condemn us anyway, well I have to say it's frustrating.

No more anonymous and just completely negative posts will be accepted on this strand. There's no point in wallowing, we have to move on. We understand the original article was upsetting, but it's time to look forward not back.

I hope you realise how many greyyhounds will be put to sleep or sold for vivisection through your pathetic magazine. All our fund raising shows now will show your article and we will be showing people exactly what Emma Milne said and how we should all boycott it.
You all have blood on your hands!

I'm going to leave that one for all to see. It's easy to be nasty when you're anonymous. That's why all future will be deleted, it serves no point. If it was such a hateful article - which I agree it was - why keep bringing it up. Why not show people the pages of positive stuff in the latest issue? And that's a rhetorical question by the way.
